“If music be the food of love, play on;
Give me excess of it, that, surfeiting,
The appetite may sicken, and so die.
That strain again! it had a dying fall:
O, it came o’er my ear like the sweet sound,
That breathes upon a bank of violets,
Stealing and giving odour!”

Join us for music, love, and drunken fools (just characters in the play of course…) Love misunderstood and identities confus’d!? DOES THIS SCREAM COMEDY OR WHAT!?!?! Have some laughs and music with us this summer with Twelfth Night!

Make sure to catch us June 17th at The Wild Detectives and June 24th at Deep Ellum Art Co.!

“God give them wisdom that have it; and those
that are fools, let them use their talents.”

About Us

Shakespeare in the Bar (SITB) was created in 2014 by Alia Tavakolian, Dylan Key, and Katherine Bourne Taylor who sought to perform William Shakespeare’s works in a way that the performers and groundlings connect.

Dylan Key, Alia Tavakolian, and Katherine Bourne Taylor

*Groundling: an unsophisticated or uncritical spectator, a member of a theater audience who traditionally stood in the pit below the stage.

Our actors rehearse each show 3-4 times and then we perform twice! When an actor forgets a line and calls for it, EVERYBODY drinks!

All the proceeds from our shows are given to Literacy Instruction for Texas (LIFT) who provides English language and high school equivalency preparation classes to parents at high need campuses in both public and charter schools. Parents attend class twice a week for two hours.

Support

Shakespeare in the Bar would be nothing without the support of our fans! From the energy of our Groundlings give us during a performance to helping us grow as a company, we owe our success to our supporters!

Volunteer

Not into performing, but still want to get involved with our shows? Join us as a volunteer!

Our volunteers opportunities include:

  • Front of House – Helping with wristbands, crowd control, and the wait-list
  • Box Office – Checking in guests prior to the show
  • Script God/Goddess – following along in the script to keep us on book, ready when we call “line”!

On top of earning our undying love and gratitude, volunteers get free tickets to our shows! It’s a fun way to guarantee a seat before tickets sell-out.

Email us at shakespeareinthebar@gmail.com with “VOLUNTEER” in the subject line to let us know you’re interested! Include your contact info, and your volunteer areas of interest.

Cheers!
